The Municipality of the Hague, and more specifically the Scheveningen Beach management, were looking for an innovative solution to bring people to do more sports, while also enabling sports after dark.

The beach is quite a vast and beautiful space, without any lights on it after sunset. This can be good for the natural course of flora and fauna, but for active people that want to use the outdoors, especially during the Covid pandemic, this can be a bummer.

Following the tender process, we submitted a proposal for a modular lighting installation, that consists of 3 different pieces that would work together and individually.

Sun, Wave, Wind. Not randomly chosen, as they also represent the 3 main types of movements on the beach that we identified:

  • Various movements on the sand (such as playing in the sand, football, etc) – called Sun
  • Fitness and gym type movements (such as squats, pushups, jumps, etc) – called Wave
  • Movements that involve longer distances (running, jogging, skating, etc) – called Wind

Stay tuned for updates and invitations to sessions where you can test these yourself.
