The Problem
Light is a very powerful element. It is both personal and shared since we all have our connection with it. And we unconsciously look for naturally looking light. People are attracted to the sun, which fills with:
- Warmth through its energy and your movements
- Security through making it clear what is around you
- Motivation, as the sun’s energy activates our bodies
- Rhythm, as it provides a way to track time
- Opportunities to play, through the light on the sand
The sun on the Sports Beach is the same sun, but, after sunset, all of these fade away, leaving people of all ages and characteristics with no option to continue doing sports. While, on the other hand, loud people with loud cars start to gather. Enabling all people, from kids running around in the sun, to employees doing their gym after work, to stay longer and do something that is good for them and their bodies, will definitely be good for the area as well. Everyone needs to be able to use the Sports Beach after sunset, no matter the time or day.
The Solution
With these in mind, we believe this modular lighting installation is the solution for the Sports Beach:
Light, Sports, Scheveningen. A title that encapsulates the topics and the focus of the project: light, sports and that unique Scheveningen feeling.
Light, Sports, Scheveningen aims to bring light to sports lovers after sunset, with a new modular system of individual lighting pieces that work both together and also individually. The installation aims to not only enable people to use the fitness court and sports beach even after sunset, but also to excite them and stimulate sports activity for all people at all times.
