What we collect, and what we don't.

We build things that deliberately avoid watching people — installations with no cameras, tools that never upload your files. It would be strange to run the website any other way.

The short version

  • Analytics are off until you say yes. Decline and nothing is ever requested from Google — no script, no cookie, no invisible ping. You can change your mind either way from the cookie settings link in the footer.
  • The free tools upload nothing. The WebP and video converters run entirely inside your browser. Your files never leave your machine, so there is nothing for us to keep.
  • We only get your details if you hand them over. The contact form and the assistant are the only places you can, and both are obvious about it.
  • We do not sell or share anything for advertising. There are no ad networks, no trackers, no social pixels and no data brokers involved in this site.

What we store in your browser

Three things, and only one of them needs your permission.

Name What it does Permission
hola-theme Remembers whether you chose light or dark. Set only if you use the toggle. No consent needed
hola-consent Remembers your answer to the cookie question, so we stop asking. Expires after a year. No consent needed
_ga, _ga_* Google Analytics. Distinguishes one browser from another so a visit is not counted twice. Only if you accept

The first two are stored by your browser alone and never sent anywhere. They exist so the site behaves the way you left it.

Google Analytics

If you accept, we use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages and case studies people actually read. It tells us that a project page was opened four hundred times; it does not tell us who you are, and we never try to find out.

Google receives your IP address, the pages you view, roughly where you are in the world, and what browser and device you used. Google acts as our processor for this, and may transfer data outside the EU under its standard contractual clauses. That is the honest reason we ask first rather than assuming.

Decline, and none of it happens. The Google script is not loaded at all — not in a limited mode, not cookielessly. Your browser makes no connection to Google because of this site.

You can also opt out at the browser level with Google's own opt-out add-on, which works everywhere rather than just here.

Ola, the assistant

Ola is the chat window in the corner. What you type is sent to our own server at hola.studio, which passes it to Google's Gemini API to generate a reply. So anything you write in that box reaches Google, and you should treat it the way you would treat any other message leaving your computer.

We pay for that API rather than using the free tier, and the difference matters to you: under Google's paid terms your prompts are not used to train or improve their models. Google processes them on our behalf to produce the answer, and that is all.

Even so, please do not paste anything genuinely confidential into a chat window — ours or anyone else's. If you want to describe a project under NDA, email us instead and we will sign one.

Conversations are not stored as a matter of course. The exception is when a chat leads to an enquiry: if you choose to leave your details through Ola, the conversation is saved alongside them so we know what you were asking about before we reply.

Ola has no access to anything about you. It reads a knowledge base built from this website's own pages, and nothing else.

When you contact us

The contact form stores what you type into it — your name, email, company, the rough budget you picked, your message, and which page you were on — on our own hosting, and emails a copy to us. That is the whole mechanism. There is no CRM, no marketing automation and no mailing list you are quietly added to.

We keep enquiries for as long as the conversation is live, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back. Ask us to delete yours and we will, without making it awkward.

The free tools

The WebP converter and video converter do all their work inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is queued on a server, and we could not see your files if we wanted to. That is why they work offline once the page has loaded.

Server logs

Our host keeps standard web-server logs — IP address, time, page requested, browser — as every web server does. They exist for security and debugging, they are not used to build any profile of you, and they rotate on the host's own schedule.

Your rights, and how to use them

Under the GDPR you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to us holding it at all. There is no form and no process — send an email and a person will answer it.

Our lawful basis is your consent for analytics, and legitimate interest for answering an enquiry you sent us. If you are unhappy with how we have handled something, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
